SILENTIA (from the Latin word for “silence”) is the name of the project developed in Granada, conceived as an immersive nighttime tour of the majestic Cartuja Monastery in Granada. WHEN THE NOISES OF THE WORLD BEWITCH US, WHEN THE HURRY OF LIFE SPEEDS US UP, BLINDING US TO WHAT IS ESSENTIAL, “SILENTIA” ARRIVES. It is a necessary stop in the desert of our lives, an oasis that prepares us to listen to what truly matters.
The Carthusian Order: The Charism of SOLITUDE AND SILENCE
The Carthusian Order was founded in the 11th century, when Bruno of Cologne was called by God to establish a new way of understanding monastic life. The charism that Saint Bruno received was that of one who sought to combine the solitary life of the hermit with the communal life of the cenobite. Under the patronage of St. Hugh of Grenoble, these monks began their journey on the Mount of the Carthusian Monastery, transforming the monastery into a “built-up desert” where each cell functions like a cave.
SILENTIA: A Sensory and Immersive Experience
This project aims to be an immersive experience that allows us to step inside the monastery walls and become companions in the life of a real monk for a few moments. SILENTIA draws us into its WORLD, allowing us to experience its history, its way of praying, how its members face death, and how they find joy in devoting their lives. It is a deep dive into Carthusian spirituality that stirs the heart’s sensitivity.
SILENTIA is the integration of cutting-edge digital technologies into a space dominated by MEDIEVAL sensibilities (The Age of Monasteries) that was built during the Modern Era (16th–18th centuries). Unlike a typical tour, this experience uses video mapping, conceptual installations, and theatrical lighting to guide the visitor’s gaze, creating a visual narrative through the use and intensity of light.

The comprehensive tour of the preserved rooms of the Cartuja Monastery in Granada is divided into eight pivotal moments, designed to offer "thunderous silences" to the hearts of visitors:

Reception at the monastery entrance. A guide accompanies them inside as the sun sets over Granada

The lights go out. For 50 minutes, a choreography of light, sacred music, and moments of silence envelops the Baroque sacristy. There are no narrators or screens.

The experience ends in silence. Visitors leave the monastery at their own pace, beneath the stars of Monte de la Cartuja.

How much is admission to SILENTIA?
Adult admission is €18. The reduced rate (for students under 25 with a valid ID, people with a certified disability, and large families) is €15. Children under 12, when accompanied by a family member, are admitted free of charge (not applicable to school groups).
Can I take photos or videos during the tour?
No. Taking photos, videos, or any other type of recording during the visit is strictly prohibited in order to preserve the immersive atmosphere of the experience.
Is the SILENTIA tour suitable for children?
Yes. Admission is free for children under 12 accompanied by an adult (this policy does not apply to school groups). Children are asked to remain quiet, as is appropriate for the experience, and not to run around the premises.
Can I cancel or change my SILENTIA ticket?
