Granada has always been a city of mysteries, art, and devotion. But something is changing in the city's nights. The Cartuja Monastery of Granada now opens its doors under the moonlight to present an unprecedented proposal. We are talking about SILENTIA, an immersive experience that combines cutting-edge technology with the deep spirituality of the 11th century.
Long before modern society needed to escape constant noise, the Carthusian monks had already mastered the art of silence. Today, their legacy comes back to life to offer you the novelty you have been waiting for and to experience the most authentic and unknown Granada. You can buy your tickets for SILENTIA here and be among the first to live this unique experience.
SILENTIA (from the Latin «silences») is not a conventional guided tour. It is the masterful integration of the most advanced digital technologies in a space dominated by the medieval sensitivity of the monastery era. Although the complex was built in the Modern era (16th-18th centuries), the soul that inhabits it dates back to the origins of the order.
The project proposes a sensory journey through theatrical lighting and videomapping. Light becomes the guide that changes the perception of space, highlights architectural elements, evokes deep emotions, and creates an amazing visual narrative. It is, in the words of its creators, a "built desert," a voluntary retreat accompanied by a universal language: spirituality.
Throughout the night visit, the visitor enters an unknown environment through eight carefully designed stages to experience truly "deafening silences":
The Carthusian Order was born in the 11th century when Bruno of Cologne decided to found a new way of understanding monastic life. They were solitary men, yet in community. Silent, but with deafening messages in their art. In SILENTIA, you retrace their steps to understand how they achieved peace of mind in a world that was already turbulent back then.
This technological and heritage marvel is the result of a four-year project made possible by European funds from the Ministry of Tourism. It is part of the «Expedition to the Middle Ages 4.0» (Expedición al Medievo 4.0), an initiative that has united 8 Spanish Dioceses (Burgos, Pamplona, Toledo, Barbastro-Monzón, Bilbao, Jaca, Plasencia, and Granada) to offer a common narrative through the latest digital technologies. While other cities focus on coexistence or art, Granada contributes the incalculable value of spirituality to this expedition.
If you have already visited jewels such as the Royal Chapel of Granada or the majestic Cathedral, SILENTIA is the perfect complement to your trip. An intervention of lights, sound, and silence designed to rediscover the Andalusian Baroque like never before.
Sessions are limited and take place at night to guarantee the necessary darkness required by the videomapping. Do not miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in this emotional journey. Book your official pass at Tickets Granada Cristiana and prepare to listen to the silence.
