About SILENTIA

SILENTIA (from the Latin «silences») is the name of the project developed in Granada, conceived as an immersive night visit in the majestic Cartuja Monastery of Granada.

History of the Cartuja Monastery

Also known as the Royal Monastery of Our Lady of the Assumption, this monument is a jewel of Spanish Baroque. Founded in the 16th century, and inhabited by Carthusian monks until their exclaustration in 1835, its construction lasted for three centuries, resulting in a unique fusion of styles: Plateresque, Renaissance, late Gothic, and Baroque.

Its exterior facade is austere and sober in contrast to the decorative richness of its interior. The entrance is through the compass, which preserves one of the most notable cobblestone pavements in Granada.

What to see in SILENTIA?

Inside, the Church of the Assumption stands out, with an impressive altarpiece and a sculpture of the Virgin; a sacristy considered by many to be the most beautiful in the world, a breathtaking Sancta Sanctorum, and a cloister, the axis around which the communal spaces of the monastery are organized.

Declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931 and known as a Site of Cultural Interest, the monastery houses a valuable collection of sacred art.

SILENTIA is not just a visit, it is an experience. The visitor is immersed in monastic life, where silence, introspection, and spirituality are the true protagonists. Through the nocturnal atmosphere and videomapping, the senses are sharpened and the space is revealed in all its emotional and symbolic depth.
